Department of Biology - DiBio

The scientific objectives of the research conducted at the Department encompass most fields of modern biology at various levels of organization, from molecules to organisms and ecosystems in an evolutionary perspective.

Many model organisms are used in research programs, involving a wide range of microorganisms, insects, invertebrates, and small vertebrates. Experimental approaches make use of a rich collection of research tools and facilities.

The diversification of research is reflected in the variety of educational courses organized by the Department: five bachelor's degree courses and seven master's degree courses in Biology, Molecular and Biomedical Biology, Biotechnology, Natural Sciences and Marine and Evolutionary Biology. The Department also includes the PhD School in Biosciences and Biotechnology.
