Scholarships

The University of Padova, the Veneto Region and other organisations offer various scholarship schemes to support students. Below is a list of the funding opportunities that are most often used by international students in Padova.

  Padova International Excellence Scholarship Programme - a.y. 2019/20

The University of Padova offers scholarships to highly talented prospective students wishing to pursue a Bachelor's or Master's degree completely held in English in Padova. The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates showing the highest achievements and school / academic records may receive a scholarship. The successful scholars will be expected to fulfil an ambassadorial role and represent the University at a number of events.

Amount of scholarship: fee-waiver + €12.000,00 scholarship (gross amount).

Who can apply: highly talented prospective international students from all over the world wishing to enrol in one of University of Padova Bachelor's or Master's degrees completely held in English.

To be eligible, you must:

  • not have an Italian nationality
  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degree applicants)
  • pre-enrol to any degree course completely taught in English at the University of Padova within the deadline (see the Call for Applications)

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

How to apply: you will be automatically considered for the selection procedure if you meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above (please check the section "Who can apply"). There is no separate application to be filled out or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those indicated in the Calls for applications of the chosen course.

Selection criteria: admitted candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study, academic quality and results of the preceding education, etc. Evaluation Committees will award up to 1 (one) scholarship for each Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Acceptance: please note that, in order to receive the scholarship, you must:

  • complete the online acceptance procedure and pay the first instalment (€185,00 in a.y. 2018/19) within the deadline indicated in your Offer Letter
  • not benefit of other national or international scholarships or grants.
  • be able to comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa (non-European students only)

Payments arrangements: the scholarship will be paid in three (3) instalments of  €4.000,00 (gross amount) each. You will receive the first instalment once in Padova, upon completion of enrolment procedures. The following instalments will be released if you achieve at least:

  • 12 ECTS by 9th March  2020

    and

  • 36 ECTS by 10th August 2020.

Duration: scholarships will be offered for 1 academic year. Renewals could be granted upon specific merit conditions, but are not necessarily guaranteed.

Revocation: the University of Padova will revoke your scholarship if:

  • you do not obtain at least 20 ECTS by 30th November 2020
  • you decide to transfer to another University or withdraw from your studies.

In the above cases, you shall refund the amount of the scholarship already received.

  Scholarships offered by Departments - a.y. 2019/20

The following Departments offer additional scholarships to international students:

Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE)

The amount of each scholarship is €5.760,37 (gross amount) per year. The Scholarship is granted for two (2) academic years.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have a non-Italian nationality
  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degree applicants)
  • pre-enrol in the Master's degree in Italian Food and Wine or in Sustainable Agriculture within the deadline (see the Call for Applications)

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies (SPGI)

The amount of each scholarship is €5.760,37 (gross amount). The Scholarship is granted for one (1) academic year.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have a non-Italian nationality
  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degree applicants)
  • pre-enrol in the Master's degree in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance or in European and Global Studies within the deadline (see the Call for Applications)

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

Department of Information Engineering (DEI)

2 scholarships for the Master's degree in ICT for Internet and Multimedia. The amount of each scholarship is €5.500,00.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have a non-Italian nationality
  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degree applicants)
  • pre-enrol in the Master's degree in ICT for Internet and Multimedia within the deadline (see the Call for Applications)

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science (BCA)

The amount of each scholarship is €2.600,00 (gross amount). The Scholarship is granted for one (1) academic year.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have a non-Italian nationality
  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor's degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor's degree (for Master's degree applicants)
  • pre-enrol in the Bachelor's degree in Animal Care and the Master's degree in Biotechnologies for food science within the deadline (see the Call for Applications)

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

Department of Physics and Astronomy (DFA)

  • 2 scholarships for prospective international students wishing to enrol in the Master’s degree in Astrophysics and Cosmology
  • 2 scholarships for prospective international students wishing to enrol in the Master’s degree in Physics of Data.

The amount of each scholarship is € 9.216,58 (gross amount). Each scholarship is granted over two academic years upon the achievement of specific merit criteria.

How to appy: you will be automatically considered for the selection procedure if you meet the requirements. There is no separate application to be filled out or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those indicated in the Calls for applications of the chosen course.

Selection criteria: admitted candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study, academic quality and results of the preceding education, etc.

Acceptance: Please note that, in order to receive the scholarship, you must:

  • complete the online acceptance procedure and pay a tuition fee deposit of €185,00 within the deadline indicated in your Offer Letter
  • not benefit of other national or international scholarships or grants.
  • be able to comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa (non-European students only)

  Regione Veneto Scholarships - a.y. 2018/19

The University of Padova, through the Veneto Region funding, supports low-income students (both Italian and international) enrolling in first, single or second cycle degrees and Phd courses.

Who can apply: any student meeting the below criteria:

  • have a low family income (ISEE below euro 23,253.00 and ISPE below euro 35.824,56)
  • have been admitted to one of the University of Padova degree courses or Phd courses
  • comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa
  • do not benefit from any other national or international scholarship or grant
  • meet the merit criteria and other additional requirements specified in the Call

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

When to apply: applications usually open at the end of July and close at the end of September

Amount of scholarship: the amount of the scholarship varies according to your family income and other conditions specified in the Call. The scholarship may include both the exemption of tuition fees and a subsistence allowance, as well as free or discounted student services such as accommodation, meals at university canteens, etc.

Duration of scholarships
: scholarships will be offered for one academic year, provided that you meet certain conditions (academic achievements, number of credits etc.). The request must be renewed every academic year.

Required documents: in order to apply for a regional scholarship, you need to provide your so called “Equivalent Economic Status Index (ISEE)” which also includes ISPE. Check Key Documents for further information.

  Galileian School of Higher Education Scholarships - a.y. 2019/20

The Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori (Galilean School of Higher Education) is the University of Padova’s school of excellence. It combines traditional university education with a series of special in-house courses comprising seminars and lectures by renowned international visiting professors.

Thirty highly talented students, both Italian and international (up to four), are selected each year through a competitive selection procedure and/or examination. If you are admitted, you will attend University of Padova courses and will be provided with free board and housing, language courses and personal study and career tutoring. As an international student, you may additionally be offered a reimbursement of travel expenses and a living allowance.  You are expected to share rights and duties of all Galilean students.

Who can apply:  you are eligible to apply if you:

  • hold (or expect to hold by 31 July) a non-Italian first-cycle/Bachelor's degreee
  • have been admitted OR are eligible to be admitted to one of University of Padova Master's degree courses
  • be no older than 26 at the time of application

Available degree courses: you may choose any Master's degree course offered by the University of Padova

The scholarship package includes: 1 round trip ticket from/to your home country (up to euro 1.500); free board and accommodation at University of Padova canteens and residences; reimbursement of documented expenses such as books, etc.; up to euro 5.000 living allowance. Other National and International Scholarships

  100 scholarships for students refugees/with international protection - a.y. 2019/20

According to the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), in cooperation with ANDISU (Italian Association of Right to Study Organizations), the Italian Ministry of Interior offers 100 scholarships for the A.Y.2019/20 to refugee students or students with international protection obtained by July 15th, 2019 in Italy.

Amount: around 5.000 euro (it is stated yearly by the Ministry of University and Research)

Duration: 1 year

Who can apply: students having the status of refugees or subsidiary protection who belong to the following categories:

  1. Winners of the previous calls in the A.Y. 2016/17, A.Y. 2017/2018 and A.Y. 2018/2019 who are entitled to obtain the scholarship in A.Y. 2019/2020 if they obtain the minimum number of CFUs indicated in the Call for applications
  2. Students with international protection by 15 July 2019 obtained in Italy, enrolled for the first time in the Italian University system in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree - A.Y.2019/2020.

Please note that the scholarship cannot be granted to students who have obtained other scholarships funded by Italian public institutions (e.g.: Regional Scholarship)

Call for applications

  "Partnership for Knowledge" Programme - a.y. 2019/20

"Partnership for Knowledge" Programme is a higher education initiative funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in collaboration with various Italian universities which offers scholarships in several thematic domains, grouped in four academic platforms.

As far as Master's degree courses is concerned, the University of Padova participates in the Programme for:

  • Platform 1 "Rural Development and Spatial Management": open to citizens residing in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Niger and Senegal with the Master's degree courses in Local Development and Sustainable Agriculture (expired)
  • Platform 3 "Sustainable energy, environment and industrial innovation": open to citizens residing in Kenya, Mozambique and Tunisia  with the Master's degree course in Environmental Engineering (1 available place - deadline: 31st May 2019)

Scholarships cover international travel expenses (1 return ticket from/to home country), health insurance, university fees and VISA related costs. Students  will also receive a monthly allowance for living expenses. Scholarships will cover a time span of 24 months for Master's degree programmes.

In order to apply, candidates must:

1) pre-enroll in the selected Master's degree course

2) inform the Agency of their application by filling the AICS notification form.

  Scholarships awarded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation - a.y. 2019/20

Every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation awards scholarships for studying in Italy to both International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).   

The aim of these scholarships is to foster international cultural cooperation, spread the knowledge of the Italian language, culture and science, as well as promote the Italian economic and technological system throughout the world. Grants are offered to pursue study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognised.

Who can apply: International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).

Eligible courses: scholarship applications are open to students wishing to apply to one of the following type of courses offered by the University of Padova:

  1. Master's degree courses  (Laurea magistrale)
  2. PhD Programmes
  3. Research under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela)

Age requirements:

  1. Master's degree courses: applicants should not be over 28 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
  2. PhD Programmes: applicants should not be over 30 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
  3. Research Projects under academic supervision: applicants should not be over 40 years old by the deadline of this call.

  Invest Your Talent - a.y. 2019/20

Invest Your Talent in Italy supports talented international students wishing to enrol in English-taught second-cycle degree courses in the fields of Engineering and Information Technologies, Management and Economics at top-ranked Italian universities, including the University of Padova. The programme offers full scholarship packages including subsistence allowance, fee-waiver and dedicated student support services. A short internship at leading Italian companies is also foreseen as part of the programme. It is supported by the Italian Government and the Italian Trade Agency.

Who can apply: the programme is open to talented students who completed at least a Bachelor degree and come from one of the following countries: Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Popular Republic of China, Turkey, Tunisia and Vietnam.

PhD Scholarships

  China Scholarship Council - University of Padova Scholarships

The University of Padova and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have created a scholarship programme to enable talented Chinese students to undertake a PhD programme at Padova.
The scholarships build on Padova University’s existing relationship with China. It has, in fact, extensive research links with Chinese research institutions and Universities. This scheme provides Chinese students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a PhD at the University of Padova. They are supported jointly by the China Scholarship (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Padova.

  Gini Foundation: Grants for Foreign Nationals

The Fondazione "Ing. Aldo Gini" supports those who plan to pursue a period of study and/or specialization in a department of the University of Padova in the scientific fields of Agriculture, Engineering or Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences for a period of at least six months and no more than one year.

  15 PhD grants for foreign students fully funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo - Deadline expired

The University of Padova, through funding from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, offers research fellowships for foreign students to attend Doctoral Courses. During the 3-year doctorate programme, successful candidates are entitled to full board and lodging.
15 PhD grants for the admission of foreign candidates to doctoral courses (33rd series) a.y. 2017/18 are now available.

Deadline: 28th March 2017

Successful candidates must confirm their will to enrol by 3rd July 2017 either by sending a fax to number +39 049 8271934 (a copy of a valid ID document must be attached) or by sending an email to doctoral.grants@unipd.it or formazione.ricerca@unipd.it including a scanned copy of a valid ID document.
