April 25, Liberation Day at Unipd

23.04.2024

The educational activities are suspended on Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26, in celebration of Italy's liberation from Nazi-fascism; furthermore, in Treviso, where some Unipd courses are held (for patronal celebration). Several study rooms remain open, even on days when classes are suspended. Unipd offices are closed from April 25 to Sunday, April 28.

As the only university decorated with a gold medal for military valor, the University of Padua played a fundamental role in the twenty months of resistance against German occupation and the revived fascism of Salò. The University's Center for the History of Resistance and Contemporary Age (Casrec) offers guided tours of Resistance sites in the city covering squares, palaces, and streets that witnessed episodes of the liberation war.

During these days, Palazzo Bo is open for guided tours, featuring a special tour on the "900s of Gio Ponti" that includes, in addition to the historic circuit, spaces such as the Rectorate, the Ancient Archive, and the Basilica. During these days, it is possible to visit university museums; in particular, on April 28th, the Museum of the History of Physics Poleni and the Enrico Bernardi Museum of Machines at the University of Padua offer guided tours and other initiatives to the public.

The University's Botanical Garden is open for visits (except for the greenhouses, closed for maintenance) and is hosting "Risvegli, the Flower Festival" these days, featuring four days of performances, meetings, exhibitions, guided tours, and workshops for all ages, in a rich program combining scientific dissemination and artistic entertainment.
