Library. More than just a place

The University of Padua launches its campaign Library. More than just a place.
The initiative is aimed at all students, especially freshmen, but also at everyone who uses the University libraries. Its goal is to promote an informed and conscious use of all the resources provided by Unipd libraries.

In the library, some have prepared for their very first exam and written the final sentence of their thesis; others have consulted and borrowed books for group projects, learned how to do research, or found lifelong friends. The Library is, therefore, more than just a place.

The University offers students, as well as teaching and administrative staff, access to an extensive bibliographic and informational heritage: more than 1,500,000 volumes, 620,000 volumes of print periodicals, over 61,000 scientific journals (free or subscription-based) in electronic format, more than 160,000 e-books, 770 subject databases, and other multimedia products. This important heritage is made accessible through the libraries and the Digital Library, which together form the University Library System, organized into library hubs, central libraries, and subject-specific libraries.

But the System is not only about bibliographic and documentary heritage: it also provides a wide range of services, as well as training workshops to learn how to search for, locate, select, and effectively use bibliographic information.

Available services include:

_ GalileoDiscovery: a single search tool for all print and electronic library resources
Book lending: borrow up to 15 books per library for students, from the libraries that own them
_ Exam texts: each library has a section with exam materials for degree programs
_ Wi-Fi: free internet access via the Eduroam Wi-Fi network
Remote access: resources can also be accessed outside the University network
Document delivery: obtain copies of journal articles or book chapters not available in Padua libraries
Interlibrary loan: borrow books not held by Padua libraries
Alternative format books>: exam texts and articles available in accessible formats
