Conceptus 1943,the wine from the University of Padua that intertwines memory, research, and territory
12.03.2026
The University of Padua presents Conceptus 1943, a project that enhances the connection between agricultural production, research, historical memory, and institutional identity. Born from the vineyards of the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company and produced according to the regulations of organic farming, the wine was created on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the organic farm at Pozzoveggiani and pays homage to Concetto Marchesi, rector of the University in 1943, a symbolic figure of twentieth-century Italian culture and a symbol of academic freedom, civil responsibility, and intellectual rigour. Through this initiative, the University ideally renews the dialogue between its history and its vocation for innovation, bringing together in a single project the value of agricultural experimentation, the quality of university productions, and the homage to one of the most significant personalities of its institutional history.
Production characteristics and sensory profile of Conceptus 1943
Conceptus 1943 is a Brut sparkling wine obtained from Glera grapes from plain vineyards cultivated on medium-textured soils with clay veins, managed according to organic methods since 2001. The harvest takes place in the first decade of September, after a careful assessment of acidity and sugar content, with a yield of about 60 quintals per hectare. Vinification follows the Charmat method, with crushing, destemming, cooling the must to 4°C, fermentation in steel tanks at controlled temperatures, and subsequent sparkling in autoclave. The process takes place at the Perlage winery in Farra di Soligo, a company specialising in the production of organic wines. From an organoleptic point of view, the wine is distinguished by its light straw-yellow colour with green reflections, its aromatic profile characterised by notes of yellow apple, pear, and white field flowers, and its harmonious, mineral taste with good structure, making it particularly suitable to accompany fish appetisers, vegetable dishes, and, more generally, the entire meal.
Where to buy the products
The project is part of a broader activity of enhancing the productions of the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company, a place where the productive dimension intertwines with the scientific and educational one. In this context, alongside Conceptus 1943, there is also Caseus Patavinus 1222, a cheese offered through collaboration with the Morandi Dairy and distributed in various sales points in the territory: at the Morandi Dairy shop in Borgoforte di Anguillara Veneta, at the Farmer's Market in via Piera in Sant'Angelo di Piove di Sacco, at Agrimons – Freshness Market in via Piave in Monselice, and every Friday at the Tencarola Market. University staff and students are entitled to a 10% discount on the purchase of the cheese, confirming the desire to promote a direct relationship between the academic community, territory, and quality supply chains
Conceptus 1943 is available for purchase directly at the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company at the price of 7 euros per bottle, with POS payment.
Regarding Caseus Patavinus 1222, in addition to the ordinary distribution network, there will be sales at the Agricultural Company on 2 April 2026, from 10:30 to 13:30; a regular monthly appointment is also being defined, allowing the Dairy staff to regularly offer the product at the Company headquarters.
This initiative thus strengthens the role of the University not only as a place of research and education but also as a promoter of projects capable of combining quality, tradition, sustainability, and enhancement of the cultural and agri-food heritage of the territory.
