The University of Padua is the first in Italy for ERC Advanced Grants

27.04.2022

The European Research Council announced the winners of the 2021 call for the ERC Advanced Grants, which includes a total of 624 million euros in funding distributed among 253 excellent researchers across Europe. Established by the European Union in 2007, the ERC is the leading European funding organization to support excellent research.

The University of Padua is committed to excellence in frontier research. Hosting three ERC Advanced Grant projects in Italy places Padua on equal footing with Trento. The excellent results obtained in the recent national evaluation of the quality of research also recognize Padua at the top of the major universities.

More excellent results from the Horizon Europe framework program funded by the European Commission for a total of 100 billion euros for the period 2021-2027. The new results come after four University of Padua researchers receive ERC Starting Grants for 2021.  In the most recent call for the 2021 Advanced Grant - ERC-2021-AdG, the three Principal Investigators Prof Alessandra Biffi, Prof Nicola Elvassore and Prof Giulio Monaco who currently work at the University of Padua, confirmed the high quality of the research carried out at the University of Padua eight hundred years after its foundation.

“We will be able to consider the three prestigious Advanced Grants obtained as one of the best celebrations for our eight hundred years that the European Union could have bestowed- says Daniela Mapelli, Rector of the University of Padua.  – I think that we all agree, during this pandemic, on the vital importance of research, not only in science but also in all fields of knowledge. The result we have achieved fills me with pride: being awarded three Advanced Grants in one year is a first for us, placing us first in Italy.”
