The University during the winter holiday: teaching, services, and special events

The University will suspend lessons from Saturday 23 December 2023 to Sunday 7 January 2024. However, numerous events are scheduled at the University and within the city during this festive time of year.

The days between 23 December 2023 and 7 January 2024, all the offices of the University's central administration, the University general switchboard (049.827.5111), the Call center (049.827.3131) and the URP are closed. Study rooms will remain open most, but not all days during the winter break, please visit the study and computer rooms schedule online.

The opening hours of the libraries of the Library System may undergo some variations while the SBA Open Science Advent Calendar has arrived!

The ancient courtyard of the Bo Palace will host the installation "Fragile" from December 22 until January 7.

Thanks to the Padova Città della Scienza integrated ticket, you can enjoy the holiday season with a visit to Palazzo del Bo at a discounted price (complete tour with audio guide), the Botanical Garden and the Museum of Nature and Humankind. Choose the three-site ticket option to access the Sunday at the Museum initiatives with visits to the Museum of Archaeological Sciences and Art, the Geography Museum, the Giovanni Poleni Museum and the Enrico Machine Museum Bernardi, every Sunday afternoon and on holidays.These museums will also remain open on Sunday 14, 21, 28 of January. If you don’t have a Padova Città della Scienza ticket, you can get the Sunday at the Museum ticket for only €3!

The Unipd Museums offer "Museums under the holidays": in addition to free visits to the collections, guided tours and workshop activities are offered on scheduled days and times, exceptionally included in the entrance ticket. 

Apart from the integrated ticket, you can visit Palazzo Bo with a guide service, as well as the Palazzo Bo with Gio Ponti's 20th Century tour from 26 December to 8 January. Check your calendar before you arrive, as there are no guided tours on 24-25-31 December and 1 January, contact the booking center (049 827 3939) from 9am to 5pm for more information.

The Botanical Garden remains open over the Christmas period, offering the public the opportunity to participate in free guided tours (Dec. 8-Jan. 7); some opening hours and days change before the usual winter break, which for 2024 is scheduled from Jan. 8 to Feb. 8.

For the entire month of December, the Asiago Astronomical Center invites the public to play Astrotombola, an observable celestial game or visit the site and participate in fun workshops.

The Unipd Store in Palazzo Bo is open daily from 9am to 6pm (including Saturdays, Sundays) until 23 December 2022. From 4 to 23 December all merchandise is 20% off in stores and at the unipdstore.en website. Shops are closed to the public from 24 December to 9 January 2023, while the shop in the Botanical Garden follows the opening hours and days of the Garden.

Unipd students on international mobility can also celebrate thanks to ESN initiatives, of the Erasmus Student Network of Padua.

Regarding the closures of departments, decentralized offices and other University structures, please refer to their respective websites.

Unitil 7 January, the city Padua offers free entry to Palazzo della Ragione, Palazzo Zuckermann, the Eremitani Museum and the Museum of the Risorgimento and the Contemporary Age to Unipd students, as well as all those residing in Padua and its province.

The MUSME, Museum of the History of Medicine and Health of Padua, offers a rich calendar of special openings on 8, 23, 24, 26 December and 6 January from 9:30am to 7pm.

Montegrotto’s Museo del Termalismo Antico e del Territorio also offers the public various events during the holiday season.
