Stories of resistance from Iran and Afghanistan

June 10 is Student Advocacy Day and marks the finale of the Student Advocacy Seminars organized by the University of Padua as part of the advocacy activities promoted by the international Scholars at Risk network.

The Student Advocacy Seminars are training courses aimed at engaging students on the importance of academic freedom by committing themselves to denouncing violations and taking concrete action to support those who are deprived of such rights under different contexts and countries around the world.

The main objective of the June 10 meeting, at the Aula 9 of Beato Pellegrino Complex (Iran and Afghanistan, with particular attention to the right of girls and women to education, denouncing various forms of violation of their academic freedom, of expression and contribution to the dissemination of knowledge.

Advocacy Day 2024 welcomes students who have carried out research and developed advocacy interventions in these contexts and includes testimonies that highlight the experiences of Afghan and Iranian students, both in Italy and in Iran and Afghanistan.

The day ends with a screening of the film Refugee Girls (produced by UNIMED) in the presence of its director, Leonardo Cinieri Lombroso.
