On Monday 10 June, the Beato Pellegrino Complex opens its door to the public by hosting a free screening of the film Refugee Girls. The film tells the story of three refugee university students struggling to overcome the challenges of the past and embrace new opportunities in Europe.
Alongside its director Leonardo Cinieri Lombroso, the screening also welcomes a group University of Padua students to share the stories about the escape from their country, their arrival in Italy, their dreams, and their hopes for a better future.
Article 26 of the Italian Declaration of Human Rights, 1948. “Everyone has the right to an education.”
The right to an education remains a basic principle of all democracies. Consecrated as a human right by the 1948 Universal Declaration, education is a fundamental step towards guaranteeing full human development and building a better future, for ourselves and for the world in which we live.
Built upon values of freedom and equality, the University of Padua continually undertakes initiatives aimed at promoting the acceptance and respect of human rights. As such, the activation of the fundraising campaign to support students in difficulty not only include refugees and asylum seekers, but for all those considered AT RISK due to situations that prevent them from enjoying the freedom of study and conducting research in their home countries.
