The IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award given to Giuseppe Buja

11.07.2023

An important international recognition in the field of electrical and electronic engineering arrives in Padua thanks to the work of Giuseppe Buja, former professor of Engineering at the University of Padua and current senior scholar. As the largest technical professional organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of technology for the benefit of mankind, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) awarded the 2024 IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award, for outstanding contributions to the field of Industrial Electrical Systems Engineering to Prof Buja, placing him as the first Italian to reach the prestigious milestone.

Buja explains, ‘my work in the field of power and industrial electronics includes the design and testing of electrical systems for industrial and civil uses. My research has allowed me to offer substantial contributions to the improvement of the performance of these systems, particularly of electric drives, with substantial advantages in terms of flexibility of use, efficiency, costs and compactness, allowing their diffusion in a myriad of applications.”

Giuseppe Buja has carried out pioneering teaching and training activities at the University of Padua. He is an avid promoter of industrial drives and electric vehicles, and has led student teams in international competitions for electric vehicles thanks to the development of innovative technical solutions such as lithium batteries and the integration of motors into the wheels and hydrogen powertrains. His vision towards sustainability and renewable energies began in the early 2000s.
