Micro-credentials
What micro-credentials are
A micro-credential is a skills certification usually obtained following short courses or targeted learning experiences. These credentials are lighter and more flexible than traditional qualifications, and are designed to certify the acquisition of particular skills or knowledge which are often relevant to the world of work.
Being digital, they can be easily shared and verified by the recipient.
How micro-credentials are issued
Micro-credentials are certified by issuing:
- an open badge
- a Europass digital credential
A Europass digital credential is a digital file issued by the University of Padua which describes your qualification.
The Europass digital credential system is managed by the European Commission and it is free and secure.
What they are used for
Europass digital credentials enable you to receive and share your micro-credentials easily and efficiently with educational and training institutions and the world of work.
You can ask to receive your digital file and store it in a wallet in your Europass library. Europass digital credentials are very useful documents, so make sure you always store them in a safe place.
How to obtain them
The University of Padova issues a Europass digital credential following attendance of professional development or advanced training courses. You will receive an email with instructions on how to manage (view and share) your digital credential.
How to use them
You can share your Europass digital credentials with employers, education and training institutions or other organisations who need information on your qualifications. By viewing your Europass digital credential, they can automatically verify that your qualification is authentic, it belongs to you, and learn about your skills and experience. Always make sure you know the identity of those with whom you share your credentials. If you store them in your Europass library, you can decide to share your credentials for a fixed amount of time.
