Incoming Traineeship at University of Padua

International Incoming Students are students coming from foreign universities who exclusively want to set up a Traineeship in Academic Departments or Units without taking exams.

It is possible to carry out incoming traineeships according to one of the two kind of mobilities:

  1. participating in an international mobility program (Erasmus+ for Traineeship, SEMP, Youth Guarantee, etc.).
  2. International Internship, Internship promoted by Foreign Universities

The Traineeship involves different subjects:

  1. University of Padua (host institution)
  2. Incoming Trainee (foreign students, graduates or doctoral students)
  3. Foreign University (promoter)

  Eligibility

Important: it is necessary to present the candidacy 3 months before the expected traineeship period

University Departments and Units could be closed for 2/4 weeks during August for Summer Break.

How to present a candidacy:

1) if you are not already in touch with a Professor/Department/Unit:             

International students who want to set up an internship at the University of Padua, have to  send an email to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it attaching the following documents  in PDF format and in English:

  • CV
  • Transcript of Records
  • Cover Letter containing activities, the period of stay and fields of research or a description of the project that you would like to develop during your stay in our University. 

2) If you already are in touch with a Professor/Department/Unit: 

If international students are already in touch and have already taken agreements with some Professor/Department/Unit:

  1. students have to send and email to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it indicating the name of the Professor/ Department/Unit that will welcome them, the period of the mobility and the type of the agreement
  2. Professor/Department/Unit that will welcome incoming students, has to send an email to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it indicating: name of the student, period of Mobility, State of origin and type of the Mobility Agreement

Important: it is necessary to keep in touch with the Career Service 3 months before the beginning of the Mobility

  Starting the Traineeship (3 months before the arrival)

In order to start the Traineeship, incoming students have to agree activities and period of stay with the hosting Professor/Department/Unit

Mandatory documents to set up the internship are:

1) Traineeship Agreement:

  1. Erasmus Learning Agreement for Traineeships (LAT) - Program Erasmus+ for Traineeship
  2. Internship Agreement -  others Mobility Programs
    provided by the sending Institution  with signatures from students, the sending University and where also our University can sign.
    The Agreement has to be filled in and signed by the incoming student and sent to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it  with the hosting supervisor in copy. 

2) Receipts of Insurance policies for Accidents on the Job and for Third party liability (or civil liability).
If your University does not guarantee them for you, please check your personal insurances you may have or please buy them in your country, before arriving in Padova. These insurances are required by the Italian law for internships. If you or your university do not have the insurance you will be asked at your arrival in Padova to pay an 6,50€ insurance in a bank in Padova within the Model you will find at

Important: University of Padua does not provide Insurance for Traineeship incoming students.      

3) Copy of ID documents (back and front) in PDF Format

4) Full students’ address in their home countries.
This information is necessary for the request of the fiscal code, a code required by national authorities. 

Important: All the documents have to mandatory be sent in English and PDF Format to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it  at least 2/3 months before the arrival.

  Further Fulfilments (before the beginning of the mobility)

  • Career Service will apply to get students’ fiscal codes that will be submitted to interested parties
  • All the students have to pass the general training course on safety in the workplace on Moodle Platform
  • Career Service will provide students with SSO credentials to Log in on Moodle Platform, after receiving the students’ Fiscal Code from the National Revenue Agency
  • Non EU students have to contact SAOS Service  to carry out the procedure for legal stays in Italy, visas and passports control (for Mobility Period longer than 3 months)

  During the Mobility

  • Students who need to validate the Declaration of Arrival, can send their documents in PDF format to incoming.stage@unipd.it.

For those who wish to suspend or extend the mobility:

  • Erasmus+ for Traineeship
    Students have to fill in the LAT “During the Mobility” section and forward it to the sending institution for the approval and then to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it
  • Others Mobility Agreements
    Students’ Supervisors have to communicate the extension term to   incoming.traineeship@unipd.it. Incoming students have to  inform their sending Universities.

  End of the Mobility

Students who need to validate the Declaration of Ending, can forward the document in PDF format, to incoming.traineeship@unipd.it.
