10.03.2026
The University of Padua has published the Report Open Science 2023-2024, a document that provides a snapshot of the current state of Open Science practices within the University and outlines future development perspectives.
Compiled by the University's Open Science Commission, the Report summarises the University's commitment to promoting a research model that is increasingly transparent, accessible, sustainable, and oriented towards reuse. The document examines various strategic areas, including Open Access, the sharing and enhancement of research data, open educational resources, and the development of open infrastructures.
The Report also presents a series of quantitative data, collected where possible from open and accessible sources, thereby offering an updated and verifiable picture of the progress made by the University during the 2023-2024 biennium. Alongside the achievements already realised, the text also identifies guidelines to further consolidate a research ecosystem capable of fostering collaboration, interoperability, and the dissemination of knowledge.
Open Science is based on a set of practices and principles aimed at reducing barriers in the research process, thereby improving transparency, accessibility, reproducibility, reliability, participation, and inclusivity. Within this framework, scientific knowledge becomes more easily traceable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, contributing to the acceleration of scientific progress.
Among the most immediate applications of Open Science are open access publishing, the sharing of research data and methods, and the use of open infrastructures. These are complemented by practices such as preregistration, crowdsourcing, preprint publication, and open peer review.
In recent years, the concept of Open Science has progressively expanded to include areas such as Citizen Science, Open Education, and Open Innovation. With this Report, the University of Padua reaffirms its commitment to strengthening a vision of research that is open to all, free of financial, legal, or technical barriers, and geared towards ever-wider global participation.
