The VQR Evaluation of Research Quality Ranks Padua First

04.05.2022

The Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems (ANVUR) ranked the University of Padua in first place in Italy for its quality and quantity of research in its 2015-2019 report, thus placing Padua first in its enhancement of young people.

The 2015-2019 ranking report evaluates scientific productivity and third mission activities of Italian higher education and research institutions. With over 182,000 scientific publications including articles, monographs, book contributions, etc., the University of Padua ranks among the top universities in Italy.

18 Groups of Evaluation Experts (GEV) from the National Agency evaluated 98 universities (4 more than in previous years) and 14 research institutes (two more than the 2010-2014 report). Noting that the number of institutions that voluntarily submitted to the evaluation decreased to 22 (from 26).

The Italian Ministry of Education (MUR) uses the results found in VQR reports, including this year’s report, to allocate 80% of the reward funded by the Italian Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO). The MUR will identify which Italian public university departments can compete for additional funds that support five-year research and development projects.
