Learning and doing for gender advocacy

02.11.2021

Learning and doing for gender advocacy is a UniTWIN European teaching partnership on ‘Countering gender-based violence in and through the media’, a special action research and learning programme organized in partnership with the University of Padua (DSPGI Department), Newcastle University, Complutense University of Madrid, University of Vienna.

The initiative is a unique opportunity to learn about and practice gender advocacy. The starting points for this collaboration are the various perspectives on violence against women on the media – focusing on online and physical attacks against women journalists – and through the media – highlighting the mediated context and conditions of femicide and other forms of violence against women. Groups will work throughout the programme preparing for joint actions on November 25, 2021.

For the occasion, students are invited to prepare for different activities to be undertaken before or during 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women), depending on their interests, backgrounds, and linguistic proficiency, including: a) reaching out to local journalists, women’s groups and associations, conduct interviews and write reports; b) working on the development of policy guidelines on gender-based violence and news media; c) producing blog-posts, photography projects, podcasts and/or video materials. All contributions will be streamed through the social networks of the participant institutions.
