The University of Padua is a new entry among the most international universities in the world

21.01.2022

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings has recently published a list of the most international environments in the world, an interesting perspective considering the ongoing effects of the CoVid pandemic.

The University of Padua enters this ranking for the first time, ranked 132nd in the world and fourth within Italy. The top five most international universities in the world are the University of Hong Kong (1st), ETH Zurich (2nd), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (=3rd), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (=3rd), and University of Oxford (4th). Four equal components (25% each) quantify an institution’s degree of internationalization. The metrics include the proportion of international staff, the proportion of international students, international co-authorship, and international reputation. The fourth international reputation component is a measure of the proportion of votes from outside the home country that the institution achieved in THE’s annual invitation-only Academic Reputation Survey, which asks leading scholars to name the world’s best universities for teaching and research in their field. This methodology differs from other rankings, such as QS Ranking, as a university must receive at least 100 marks from professors of foreign universities and 10% of national marks before consideration.

The new entry and excellent ranking of the University of Padua is the result of the internationalization policies launched in recent years.
