Underground. The Exhibition

Open to the public until January 6 at the Botanical Garden, Underground is a photographic exhibition by Jacopo Pasotti—science communicator, environmental journalist, and photographer. It is sponsored by the University of Naples Federico II and is the outcome of the CoEvolve project led by microbiologist Donato Giovannelli.

From Icelandic fumaroles to high-altitude Andean lagoons, the exhibition tells the story of the invisible dialogue between microorganisms and extreme environments. The images, the result of a three-year project, reveal remote landscapes where life adapts, transforms, and co-evolves with rock in seemingly unimaginable settings.

The exhibition weaves together science and beauty, taking us to the very edges of life—and inviting reflection on the origins of life itself and on the boundaries of what we define as habitability.
