There are 17 "intergenerational cohabitation" arrangements that started this year in Padua
18.12.2024
The second edition of the intergenerational cohabitation project is already active, offering a solution to the increasing demand for affordable rental housing from out-of-town students, thanks to the availability of people over 65 who provide a room in their home. The project, initiated by the Unipd Pro-rectorate for the Right to Education, began experimentally in the summer of 2023 with a working group shared by the Municipality in collaboration with the University of Padua, ESU, and social partners.
Of the five pairings experimented with last year, two have been confirmed again in this new edition. To these, 15 new cohabitations have been added, starting between September and November 2024; all cohabitations are single, except for one couple who hosts two students.
There are 11 Italian students and 4 foreign students hosted: one Belgian student, one Colombian student, one Indonesian student, and one student from Yemen. The inclusion of international students, a novelty this year, further enriches the cohabitation, making it not only intergenerational but also intercultural.
