
Thanks to European funding, 50 young international researchers will attend a research doctorate of excellence at the University of Padua

The University of Padua has been selected in the Horizon 2020 - Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, COFUND Doctoral Programme 2020 call to obtain obtains from the European Commission the co-funding of UNIPhD - Eight century legacy of multidisciplinary research and training for the next-generation talents.
Thanks to COFUND Actions the EU funds projects presented by universities and research centers to support the training and career development of their researchers.
UNIPhD Budget is € 8.523.000: EU contribution is € 4.068.000; University of Padua co-funding: € 4.255.000; Veneto Region prospective co-funding : € 200.000.
The UNIPhD PhD Programme (UNIPhD) is designed by the University of Padua to be a game-changer in Doctoral Education. UNIPhD is a very ambitious action, which over a five-year period will lead to the award of 50 three-year PhD scholarships, to promising young Italian and international researchers, rigorously selected to undertake a research training path marked by excellence and innovation.
The project involves 25 PhD courses of the University of Padua and combines a solid academic preparation with targeted training on transversal skills, open innovation, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). It also offers PhD students the opportunity to carry out periods of field research outside the University, to be performed at organizations, companies, research institutes and qualified laboratories.
The project partners include the Veneto Region, that will financially endorse the action, CNR – National Research Council, INFN – National Institute for Nuclear Physics, V.I.M.M. – Venitian Institute of Molecular Medicine, IOV –Veneto Institute of Oncology, Assindustria Veneto Centro, Azienda Ospedale Università di Padova (University hospital), l’INAF – National Institute for Astrophysics, Unismart Foundation, Galileo Science Park, APRE – Agency for the Promotion of European Research, il FAI – Italian Heritage Fund (Fondo Ambiente Italiano).
The European contribution of over 4 million euros to the UNIPhD project represents an important recognition at the European level of the commitment of the University of Padua in promoting excellent research, open science and the internationalization of training and research.
UNIPhD PhD scholarships will cover an exceptionally broad disciplinary spectrum, which encompasses arts are humanities, social sciences, engineering, physics, life sciences, medicine, natural sciences.

By fostering ambitious programmes, such as UNIPhD, the University of Padua aims at supporting frontier research and training, which are considered as strategic priorities, both in terms of attracting talented promising researchers and fostering transnational mobility, that is a prerequisite for career development of researchers”.
Under the 7th Framework programme, Unipd was the 1st University in Italy to be awarded and to manage a COFUND grant: the PISCOPIA Programme for Experienced Researchers engaged a total of 25 post-docs over a period of 5 years and allowed Unipd to successfully test and implement innovative strategies for post-doc recruitment.
