Paolo Bonato, guest at the Seminars series organized by PNC and DNS

24.10.2023

As part of the seminars organized by the “Padua Neuroscience Center – PNC” together with the Department of Neuroscience, Paolo Bonato, Harvard Medical School and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, will give a talk entitled Precision Rehabilitation Interventions in Neurological Patients Undergoing Robot-Assisted Motor Training on November 2 at Fondazione Ricerca Biomedica Avanzata VIMM (Via Orus 2 – Padova).

The talk will review the use of robotics in rehabilitation medicine with a focus on retraining motor function in patients with neurological conditions ranging from stroke to cerebral palsy. It will be argued that the prediction of patients’ response to robot-assisted motor training should account for the mechanisms underlying the short-term and long-term response of each patient to the forces generated by the robot. Finally, the talk will present preliminary results on sensory augmentation techniques aimed to boost (and potentially restore) the ability of patients to generate a motor adaptation to robot-exerted forces hence providing an opportunity to retrain the ability of patients to generate new or modify existing motor plans.

The seminar will be held in English, and it is open to professors, researchers, lecturers, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows and grant holders.

Attendance is free as long as places are available.
