The new portal for the University of Padua Library System

08.02.2022

As part of the 800th Anniversary of the University of Padua, the University Library System changes its appearance and renews itself.

The history tracing the University of Padua’s ancient past was paved with the journeys of those who devised, experimented, created, and discovered new things within its walls. The words preserved in books allow us to keep the memory of their journeys alive. The books, journals, articles and resources held in our libraries let us speak with the past, allowing us to imagine futures freely, whether similar to those of the past or completely different.

The changes made to the Paduan Library System complement the need to maintain a dialogue with the University’s ancient history while ensuring an open dialogue with readers in the 21st century. The new portal offers a more user-friendly gateway into millions of resource materials of books and digital documents available through the GalileoDiscovery search engine tool navigated from any device, including smartphones, tablets, personal computers, and more. Available in Italian and English, the portal conforms to the accessibility standards for the use of written content in an alternative form.

The site changes its background image weekly, sharing a piece of the University of Padua’s history as told through the digitized image collections from the Phaidra archive platform and the Movio virtual exhibitions tool.
