The new Veneto Pediatric Hospital “Salus Pueri” is now operational
09.02.2026
The new Veneto Pediatric Hospital was established in response to the urgent need for a larger and more modern facility dedicated to pediatric care, the need to streamline care pathways, and the opportunity to centralize intensive and surgical activities.
The building is located at the heart of the eastern area of the hospital’s pavilion-style complex. It occupies a central position and is appropriately connected to the buildings dedicated to obstetric and gynecological services. It extends over eight floors on the site formerly occupied by the Pulmonology Department. The hospital has 155 beds across a total surface area of 20,000 square meters and includes six operating rooms on the seventh floor. Each room also provides dedicated space for caregivers.

Some interesting facts: The construction involved 1,570 workers, with 157 companies participating. The hospital is equipped with 9 elevators, glass facades covering 1,860 m², and opaque facades occupying 5,400 m². There are 1,141 internal doors, 241 exterior window frames, 2,000 LED lamps installed, and 24 air treatment units in place.
Padua’s Pediatric Hospital is the largest institute in the Northeast dedicated to the care of children. On average, 10,000 children are admitted each year, with 25,000 emergency room visits and 320,000 outpatient consultations. There are about 2,800 births annually. The new Pediatric Hospital hosts 26 operational units.
Special attention was given to the design of the interior spaces, conceived to support the care pathway and enhance the hospitalization experience. The hospital is not only a place for medical treatment but also for welcome and life.

Inspired by the theme of nature, the project will transform the spaces into a true journey through the Earth's biomes: from rainforests to savannas, deserts to glaciers — offering young patients an educational and immersive experience during their stay.
Each floor is characterized by a color and a symbol inspired by nature and by the paths of the Botanical Garden of Padua and the Museum of Nature and Humankind – University of Padua, creating a pathway that makes the Pediatric Hospital not only a place of care, but also one of welcome and growth.
