
Five Unipd projects win the fourth round of the multi-round call by Fondazione Telethon

Fondazione Telethon announces, on the occasion of the 35th Marathon on Rai networks from December 14 to 22, the 5 winning projects of the fourth round of the multi-round call funded in Veneto, all led by researchers from the University of Padua. Thanks to this latest allocation, over 3,000 projects have been funded by Telethon since its inception. More than 750 thousand euros have been allocated in Veneto and 6.35 million euros in Italy, collected thanks to the donations of citizens, which will fund research on rare genetic diseases.
The evaluation of individual projects was entrusted to the scientific and medical committee of the Foundation and external reviewers expert in the proposed themes, totaling over 200 scientists.
These are the winning professors from the University of Padua:
- Milena Bellin, University of Padua, will lead a research group that will delve into hereditary heart diseases
- Mario Bortolozzi, University of Padua and Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine, with his team, will study X-linked Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT1X)
- Martina Calore, University of Padua, with her group, will study arrhythmogenic left ventricular cardiomyopathy
- Maria Pennuto, University of Padua and Veneto Institute of Molecular Medicine, with her team, will delve into Kennedy's disease, also known as spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy
- Valentina Poletti, University of Padua and Istituto di ricerca pediatrica Città della Speranza, with her group, will study a lysosomal storage disease due to β-galactosidase enzyme deficiency, called GM1 gangliosidosis.
