05.02.2024

On February 6, 2024, the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC will host the Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia International Award Ceremony, to continue promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in science. The event will take place in the framework of the 2024 Week of Women and Girls in Science.

The Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia International Award, at its first edition, is named after the first woman in the modern world who received a doctoral degree in Padua, Italy (1678). The award celebrates the contribution of women scientists and scholars to research, innovation, and the development of a scientific culture based on equality.

The award is promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute (ICI) of New York in collaboration with the Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation (ISSNAF) and the Elena Cornaro Center of the University of Padua. It is intended for women scientists of Italian citizenship who work in the USA and have distinguished themselves for excellence in research, continuity of commitment, vision and leadership.
