Metamorphosis of democracy between totalitarianism and populism” aims to reflect, through the different tools and methodologies of social sciences, on the crisis of democracy in last century, noting in particular two of the responses to this crisis, totalitarianisms and populisms. This seminar series begins discussing how in the second postwar democracy is born on the ashes of fascism, to then analyze the different uses of universal suffrage and investigate one of the possible ways leading to the development of populisms, investigating the evolution of fascism into populism, and more generally the transition from totalitarian to populist movements. The seminar will continue subsequently investigating the nature of contemporary populisms, their impact on human rights, but also by starting a theoretical reflection on their nature. Seminars are held by some of the leading international experts on the topic.

Students of the Galilean School can obtain two Galilean credits by attending the entire series of seminars
