European student card: pilot project launch for internationally mobile students

The University of Padua (Unipd) is participating in the European Student Card (ESC) project. This initiative, part of the broader Erasmus+ 2021–2027 programme and the European Student Card Initiative (ESCI), aims to simplify student mobility by enabling digital verification of student status and unified access to academic services across Europe.
The IT and Telematics Services Area (ASIT) and the International Relations Area (ARI), in collaboration with project partner ISIC (International Student Identity Card), have launched a pilot project dedicated to incoming internationally mobile students. The project involves integrating the ESC into university services.
Students will be able to use the card — previously registered on the European ESC-Router platform — to access services at the University of Padua and have their international student status recognised across Europe.
The adoption of the European Student Card marks a concrete step toward a more interconnected, inclusive, and digital European Higher Education Area. It allows the University to offer more efficient support to mobile students, streamline administrative procedures related to student status recognition, and strengthen its international network and role within the European Education Area.
With the European Student Card, the University of Padua reaffirms its commitment to the digitalisation and internationalisation of university services, and to promoting simpler, more integrated, and more digital international mobility, actively contributing to the construction of the European Education Area.
This pilot project represents a first step toward the large-scale adoption of the ESC, which will eventually involve the entire student community in Padua. The goal, in line with the European Commission’s vision, is for as many students as possible to benefit from this innovation, both in physical and digital formats.
