20.11.2024
Maurizio Corbetta, from the Department of Neuroscience and professor of Neurology, already included since 2012 in the HCR in the "Neuroscience and Behavior" category, Michelangelo Cordenonsi from the Department of Molecular Medicine and professor of Histology in the "Cross field" category, Michele De Bastiani, winner of the ENI Award Young Researcher 2018 when he was a PhD at the University, in the "Cross field" category, Maria Antonella Muraro, contract professor at the School of Medicine and Surgery in the Department of Medicine DIMED, already included since 2020 in the HCR in the "Immunology" category, Stefano Piccolo from the Department of Molecular Medicine and professor of Molecular Biology, already included since 2020 in the HCR in the "Molecular Biology and Genetics" category; Marco Sandri from the Department of Biomedical Sciences and professor of General Pathology and Pathophysiology in the "Cross field" category, Luca Scorrano from the Department of Biology and professor of Biochemistry of Pathologies in the "Cross field" category, Silvio Tosatto from the Department of Biomedical Sciences and professor of Bioinformatics in the "Biology and Biochemistry" category.
These are the eight researchers from the University of Padua included among the "Highly Cited Researchers 2024," the ranking by Clarivate Analytics, which independently manages the ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) Web of Science, whose databases collect and process metadata from scientific publications, thus identifying scientists who have stood out internationally in all research fields. Specifically, researchers are included in this list based on an index compiled by bibliometric experts and scientists, analyzing a vast amount of data from research conducted worldwide; based on this index, the ISI selected 6,636 "highly cited" researchers from over 1,200 scientific institutions in 59 countries for 2024. The rigorous evaluation process is based on data from the Web of Science Core Collection™ citation index and qualitative analysis conducted by ISI experts at Clarivate™. The selection process includes an assessment of data from Highly Cited Papers™ from scientific and social science journals indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded™ and the Social Sciences Citation Index™ over the decade from 2013 to 2023.
Due to their respective studies and publications over the past ten years, Maurizio Corbetta, Michelangelo Cordenonsi, Michele De Bastiani, Maria Antonella Muraro, Stefano Piccolo, Marco Sandri, Luca Scorrano, and Silvio Tosatto are now part of an exclusive group of researchers, only 6,636. Each selected researcher, in addition to being the most cited in their field, was monitored through qualitative analysis and expert judgment. In the global pool of scientists and social scientists, only 1 in 1,000 are "highly cited". This year, 6,886 Highly Cited Researcher 2024 awards were given to 6,636 individuals. The number of recognitions exceeds the number of individuals because some researchers were awarded in multiple research fields.
