Education for Sustainability: Seminar and Workshop
03.09.2024
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Room E of Palazzo del Bo, a meeting aimed at the student community dedicated to exploring the topic of education on sustainability is scheduled.
The first part of the event, from 11:00 to 12:00, will host a seminar, followed by a workshop, by Michael Paulsen, Danish philosopher, educational researcher, associate professor and director of the Centre for Understanding Human Relationships with the Environment (CUHRE) at the University of Southern Denmark, entitled Playing With Disaster - Nourishing Life-Friendly Co-Existence in an Anthropocene Age: New Hope.
During the seminar, the lecturer will present his research project “Playing with disaster,” focused on the development and co-creation with youth of a speculative ci-fi (solar punk) role-playing game, both as a new type of research tool and as a new type of educational practice. The project aims to create playful-imaginative activities that go beyond research, education and philosophy to explore non-dystopian narratives useful for cultivating and nurturing hope, action and being-in-the-world in difficult times of ecological crisis. This will be followed by dialogues and creative group activities, closed by a plenary discussion.
The second part of the meeting, from 12:00 to 12:30, titled “Introduction of the Moodle course: ‘Sustain-ability: Our journey for the planet’” will feature a seminar by Marianne Araneta, Ph.D. candidate in Pedagogical Sciences of Education and Training, and Angela Moriggi, Marie Curie Individual Fellow, Dept. of Territory and Agro-Forestry Systems, University of Padua, on the online course “Sustain-ability: a journey for our planet.” The course, designed using a transformative, multidisciplinary and holistic approach, aims to introduce first-year undergraduates to sustainability issues and motivate them for individual and collective change.
Starting with a reflection on how an online course can cultivate a sense of belonging in the world and inspire actions for change, the Moodle course will be presented.
To participate in the seminar and workshop Playing With Disaster - Nourishing Life-Friendly Co-Existence in an Anthropocene Age: New Hope, reservations are required at the link:https://www.unipd.it/playing-with-disaster-prenotazioni
Both activities, Playing With Disaster - Nourishing Life-Friendly Co-Existence in an Anthropocene Age: New Hope and Introduction of the Moodle course: “Sustain-ability: Our journey for the planet”, in English, are free and open to the student community, subject to availability of seats.
