Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022: Unipd confirms its top national performance

22.08.2022

On Monday, August 15, one of the most accredited international rating agencies, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, published the 2022 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). This year, the agency evaluated over 2000 Universities and Research Bodies with only the best 1000 entering the rankings. The University of Padua confirmed its performance, remaining between 151st and 200th place worldwide and reaching the top ranking in Italy along with La Sapienza, the University of Milan and the University of Pisa.

The ARWU ranking methodology uses six indicators: the total number of alumni winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (Alumni), the total number of staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals (Award), the number of Highly Cited Researchers selected by Clarivate (HiCi), number of papers published in Nature and Science (N&S), number of papers indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index (PUB), and a weighted score based on the previous five parameters divided by the number of full-time academic staff, providing a sort of pro-productivity -capita (PCP).

Driving the University of Padua’s excellent results include the two indicators related to scientific productivity (N&S and PUB), on which Padua consolidates its national leadership, which is highly competitive even on a global scale. This year’s parameter on the number of Highly Cited Researchers has also improved, with as many as eight University of Padua researchers listed by Clarivate as some of the most cited researchers in the world.

Therefore, our University has been recognized for its role in research activities that allow for the development of innovative training courses with a significant impact on the community and beyond.

University of Padua Rector Daniela Mapelli comments, “A recognition received during the year in which we celebrate 800 years of history, our University reconfirms its consistent level of highly impactful scientific activities. These results testify to the coherent and consistent path towards growth undertaken by the University in recent years."
