Scholarships awarded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation MAECI
Every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation awards scholarships for studying in Italy to both international students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).
The aim of these scholarships is to foster international cultural cooperation, spread the knowledge of the Italian language, culture and science, as well as promote the Italian economic and technological system throughout the world. Grants are offered to pursue study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognised.
Who can apply: International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy.
Eligible courses: scholarship applications are open to students wishing to apply to one of the following type of courses offered by the University of Padova:
- Master's degree programmes (Laurea magistrale)
- PhD courses
- Research under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela)
Age requirements:
- Master's degree programmes: not over 28 years;
- PhD Programmes: not over 30 years;
- Research Projects under academic supervision: not over 40 years.
Language requirements:
- Italian-taught courses: B2 level (CEFR);
- English-taught courses: no Italian-language requirement; English-language: B2 level (CEFR).

When to apply: Application period for A.Y. 2024/25 from 15 May 2024 to 14 June 2024
Amount and duration of scholarship: monthly allowance of 900 euros (net). The duration can vary from 6 to 9 months.
Payment arrangements and maintenance requirements: the scholarship will be paid each three months. The merit conditions required to maintain the scholarship also in the following academic years are detailed in the Call for applications.
