On Friday 15 March, the Vallisneri Complex (via Ugo Bassi) will dedicate the Aula Magna to Giovanni Felice Azzone (1927-2022), professor of General Pathology, director of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Padua and founder of the CNR Center for the study of mitochondrial physiology which he began directing in 1982.
Esteemed expert in the study of mitochondria, Azzone was a world-renowned scholar in the field of bioenergetics, the branch of biochemistry that studies all the processes through which cells use, store, and exchange energy. As a visionary promoter of science beyond disciplinary boundaries, Azzone was highly active in the creation of the "Antonio Vallisneri" interdepartmental complex.

On Friday 15 March, the Vallisneri Complex (via Ugo Bassi) will dedicate the Aula Magna to Giovanni Felice Azzone (1927-2022), professor of General Pathology, director of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Padua and founder of the CNR Center for the study of mitochondrial physiology which he began directing in 1982.
Esteemed expert in the study of mitochondria, Azzone was a world-renowned scholar in the field of bioenergetics, the branch of biochemistry that studies all the processes through which cells use, store, and exchange energy. As a visionary promoter of science beyond disciplinary boundaries, Azzone was highly active in the creation of the "Antonio Vallisneri" interdepartmental complex.
The development of the Vallisneri complex in the 1970s brought forth the idea of bringing teachers, researchers, and students under one roof. Thanks to his vision of science as a collegial and interdisciplinary activity, the naming of the Aula Magna after Prof. Azzone comes with a great sense of gratitude from those who approved the honor, including the departments of Biology, Molecular Medicine, and Biomedical Sciences, and the Vallisneri Complex Committee.
The naming ceremony will include Prof Luigi Bubacco (Department of Biology Director), Prof Stefano Piccolo (Department of Molecular Medicine Director), Prof Rosario Rizzuto (Department of Biomedical Sciences Director), and Giuseppe De Vito (Vallisneri Complex Director).
During the ceremony, a plaque positioned inside the hall dedicated to Giovanni Felice Azzone will be unveiled.
Participation in the ceremony is free upon registration.
