Scholarships for students at risk

The University of Padua makes available a maximum of thirteen scholarships for international students who are refugees or in a situation of danger and who wish to attend a degree programme at the University.

Scholarship amount: EUR 12,000 per year (gross amount paid to the recipient) + waiver of university fees.

Additional benefits:

• travel coverage to Italy;
• assignment of accommodation in suitable facilities, under agreement with the Area Relazioni Internazionali (the fee will be paid directly by the beneficiary);
• dedicated buddy;
• psychological support;
• Italian language courses at the University Language Centre;
• guidance, assistance and support through dedicated staff throughout the entire degree programme.

Duration: three years for students enrolled in Bachelor's Degree Programmes; two years for students enrolled in Master's Degree Programmes; five years for students enrolled in single-cycle Master's Degree Programmes.

Entry requirements: candidates must:

• hold a residence permit for political asylum, asylum application or similar, in Italy or abroad or
• be beneficiaries of temporary protection as defined by EC Decision 2022/382 or
• declare that they are in a situation of risk;

In addition, they must:

• hold a secondary school leaving certificate (for those intending to enrol in a Bachelor's Degree Programme or a single-cycle Master's Degree Programme) or a degree (for those intending to enrol in a Master's Degree Programme) not obtained in Italy and valid for access to the Italian university system;
• apply for one or more degree programmes provided by the University of Padua for the academic year 2026/27 or
• have already been found eligible in the selections already announced for the academic year 2026/27. 

Anyone wishing to apply must read the call for applications, downloadable below, and submit an online application starting from 23 March 2026.

The deadline for submitting an application is 11 May 2026, at 23.59 (Italian time).

Selection criteria: the scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, language proficiency, motivation, and a documented situation of risk. In the event of a tie in score, preference will be given to female candidates and younger candidates.

Award results: The results of the selection process and the awarding of the scholarships will be published on this page from 8 June 2026.
