Spreading the message of health and sport between the oldest universities in Europe
(21 April – 18 June 2022)
In celebrating 800 years of its history, the University of Padua organised the Scholares vagantes cycling relay through the oldest universities in Europe. The relay paid homage to the medieval scholares vagantes who crossed the same borders in search of a common culture, and a testament to the international student mobility that Europe enjoys today.
Composed of professors, personnel, and students, the nine cycling teams from the University of Padua led the way week after week. Passing Oxford, Cambridge, Paris Sorbonne, Salamanca, and Bologna, the relay began on 21 April until they reached their final destination in Italy, arriving at Palazzo Bo in Padua on 18 June.
