
Pro-Ben project: who we are
The partnership created for the design and implementation of the Unist-Health - Pro-Ben project consists of five universities, with the University of Padua as the lead institution.
University of Padua
At the University of Padua, the project focuses primarily on enhancing and improving the efficiency of services offered by the University Clinical Psychology Services Centre (Scup).
The project primarily targets students whose academic progress is stalled, those who are not entirely honest about their study difficulties, and international students from countries experiencing natural or geopolitical disasters.
Additionally, a call is issued to select students to serve as Psychological Health Ambassadors, who are responsible for promoting psychological well-being in each School of the University and improving access to clinical services.
THE TEAM
- Claudio Gentili is a full professor of Clinical Psychology and has been directing the Scup centre since 2021. His research interests include the biological bases of mental disorders, psychological treatments, and treatment efficacy.
- Marta Ghisi is a full professor of Clinical Psychology and a senior psychologist at the University Hospital of Padua in the Hospital Psychology Unit.
- Antonio Paoli is a full professor of Exercise and Sport Sciences and the delegate for Well-being and Sport. He has promoted numerous initiatives for the psychological and physical well-being of the staff and student community at the University of Padua.
- Erica Gobbi is an associate professor of Exercise and Sport Sciences. Her main research interests involve promoting physical activity in relation to health, with a particular focus on developing inclusive practices.
- Alessio Vieno is a full professor of Community Psychology and head of the Risk-Free Well-being operational unit at the Scup Centre. His work focuses on risk behaviours, prevention, and well-being promotion.
- Claudia Marino is an associate professor of Community Psychology and a psychotherapist. Her interests include behavioural addictions and preventive interventions.
- Sabrina Cipolletta is a full professor of Social Psychology, a psychotherapist, and directs the Psychological Support Service for international students and scholars at Scup and the Psymed Health Psychology Laboratory. Her interests include promoting well-being in relationships.
- Silvia Salcuni is an associate professor of Dynamic Psychology, a psychologist-psychotherapist, PhD, and the contact person for the Psychological Assistance Service for university students (SAP). She is the director and supervisor of psychotherapy trainees at the SSUAP Life Cycle. Her research interests focus on personality assessment and psychotherapy efficacy.

University of Bologna
At the University of Bologna, the project aims to enhance the Psychological Help Service (Sap) and promote psychological well-being within the university context through a digital intervention focused on increasing psychological flexibility, a protective factor for mental health.
For students whose academic careers are stalled or who conceal their academic status, an integrated support pathway has been designed in collaboration with Sap and the Orientation Office.
The project also includes actions that highlight the importance of sports disciplines as a useful tool for improving psychophysical well-being.

- Silvana Grandi: is a full professor of Clinical Psychology, psychiatrist, and psychotherapist, head of the Psychological Help Service (Sap) at the University of Bologna, and the Rector's Delegate for University Psychological Counseling.
- Eliana Tossani: is a full professor of Clinical Psychology and psychotherapist.
- Giulia Landi: is a senior researcher (type b) in Clinical Psychology.
- Andrea Ceciliani: is a full professor in Methods and Didactics of Motor Activities.
- Pasqualino Maietta Latessa: is an associate professor in Methods and Didactics of Motor Activities.
- Laura Bragonzoni: is an associate professor in Methods and Didactics of Motor Activities.
- Serena Mocci: is the research manager of the Pro-Ben Unist-Health project.
- Angelo Guerriero: is the head of the Student Services Area (Ases) - Orientation office.
University of Catania
The Unist-Health (Pro-Ben) project at the University of Catania involves a series of actions aimed at monitoring and improving the psychological well-being of the student body. These actions include monitoring the well-being status of the student population, designing an app to track anxiety, depression, and physical activity, and providing suggestions for psychological well-being.
Another key action is the optimization of psychological services through the design and implementation of psychological interventions to support the most vulnerable students. Additionally, peer training for the promotion of well-being and prevention of pathological addictions will be conducted through the actions of Psychological Health Ambassadors, and the promotion of outdoor physical activities along with mindfulness sessions will be carried out in various departments and satellite campuses.
The project also plans to launch an informational Psychological Health Camper that will periodically visit various university sites to promote psychophysical well-being and disseminate activities aimed at the student population.

- Giuseppe Musumeci: Full professor of Motor and Sports Sciences, director of the Research Centre on Motor Activities, president of the degree course in Motor and Sports Sciences, responsible for physical activities.
- Concetta Pirrone: Associate professor of General Psychology, responsible for data analysis.
- Sabrina Castellano: Associate professor of Psychometrics, responsible for assessment.
- Ignazio Alberto Barbagallo: Associate professor of Biochemistry, rector's delegate and board member of the University Sports Centre (CUS Catania), responsible for sports activities.
- Vittorio Lenzo: Researcher in Dynamic Psychology and psychotherapist, responsible for high-intensity interventions.
- Pasquale Caponnetto: Researcher in Clinical Psychology and psychotherapist, senior psychologist at the university hospital, responsible for pathological addiction interventions.
- Alberto Sardella: Researcher in Clinical Psychology and psychotherapist, responsible for data management.
University of Chieti-Pescara
At the University of Chieti-Pescara, the project aims to enhance the University Counseling Service by adding group skills training and brief psychotherapy interventions to the existing activities.
The primary focus is on students who have difficulties in managing their emotions, helping them to acquire and/or strengthen skills such as awareness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance.
All activities are aimed at promoting psychological well-being and improving academic engagement, understood as a positive and proactive stance in relation to the university context.
Students selected as Psychological Health Ambassadors are active in each department of the university to promote psychological well-being with simple suggestions and to improve access to clinical services.

University of Florence
At the University of Florence, the project focuses on enhancing and improving the efficiency of services offered by the Centre for Psychological Counseling, Psychotherapy, and Clinical Psychology Services (Cecops) and Unifi Include.
The core actions target students at risk of developing behavioral addictions (including internet-use disorders) and academic procrastination, as well as supporting social integration policies to ensure equity, gender equality, and equal opportunities.
Students are selected as Psychological Health Ambassadors to be active in each school of the University, promoting psychological well-being with simple suggestions and improving access to clinical services.

Silvia Casale: Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology, head of the Psychological-Clinical Counseling Section of Cecops. Editor-in-chief of the journal "Addictive Behaviors Reports," Associate Editor of "Addictive Behaviors," she focuses on risk factors and the development of prevention and treatment interventions for new forms of addiction.
Maria Paola Monaco: Associate Professor of Labor Law, Rector's Delegate for Inclusion and Diversity, she has promoted numerous initiatives to enhance inclusion policies and the psychological and physical well-being of students and staff at the University of Florence.
Barbara Giangrasso: Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology, President of Cecops, she focuses on the development of individual and group interventions to promote psychological well-being.
Caterina Primi: Full Professor of Psychometrics, President of the School of Psychology at the University of Florence, she focuses on risk factors and tools and techniques for evaluating prevention interventions for new forms of addiction.
Maria Anna Donati: Researcher of Psychometrics, she focuses on risk factors and tools and techniques for evaluating prevention interventions for new forms of addiction.
Giulia Fioravanti: Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology, member of Cecops, she focuses on risk factors and the development of prevention and treatment interventions for new forms of addiction.
Alessio Gori: Associate Professor of Dynamic Psychology, member of Cecops, he focuses on risk factors and the development of prevention and treatment interventions for new forms of addiction.
Camilla Matera: Associate Professor of Social Psychology, member of Cecops, she focuses on protective factors for psychological well-being and the prevention of risky behaviors.
Annalaura Nocentini: Associate Professor of Developmental Psychology, member of Cecops, she focuses on risk factors and the development and evaluation of prevention interventions for risky behaviors across the life span.
Unist-Health - Pro-Ben
