Once again this year, on June 2, Padua and the University of Padua celebrate Republic Day, marking 79 years since the 1946 referendum that represented a turning point for the country. On that historic day, the Italian people were called to choose the form of their government, and through popular vote, both the Republic and the Constituent Assembly—tasked with drafting the new Constitution—were born.
On Monday, teaching activities at the University will be suspended, Unipd offices will be closed, and the opening hours of some study rooms may vary.
The day begins with the traditional institutional ceremony at 9:30 AM in Piazza dei Signori, featuring performances by the Concentus Musicus Patavinus Orchestra of the University of Padua, the Moviechorus choir of Padua, and the Hopa Dance Studio from Vigonza, with music and choreography.
For the occasion, Palazzo del Bo will be open for guided tours, including two special itineraries: "Palazzo del Bo and the 20th Century of Gio Ponti". In addition, free special tours "Palazzo del Bo and the Birth of the Republic" will also be available.
Numerous events will take place throughout the day in the city, including a public discussion titled "Culture as a Fundamental Right of Citizens in the Vision of the Founding Fathers" at 11:00 AM at the Galilean Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts.
On this festive day, the Museum of Nature and Humankind and the Botanical Garden will also remain open to the public.
