Italian language test
Non-EU candidates applying for a visa will be required to sit an Italian language test in order to enrol in Italian-taught degree programmes.
The test is not required for:
- students who enrol in English-taught degree programmes;
- students who have at least a B2 level certification with respect to those listed in the Ministerial Guidelines;
- students who have obtained an upper secondary school diploma at an Italian school abroad or at the schools listed in annex 2 of the Ministerial Guidelines (in this case students are also exempted from the quotas);
- all the other cases as indicated in the Ministerial Guidelines
For the academic year 2025/26 the Italian language test will consist of an online test, ITA L2, organized in collaboration with CISIA.
In order to sit the Italian language test, students are required to:
- apply for an Italian-taught degree programme offered by the University of Padua, following the indications provided in our website;
- be admitted to an Italian-taught degree programme offered by the University of Padua;
- accept the admission offer received through the application platform (apply.unipd.it) and complete the admission fee payment (205 €);
- pre-enrol through the Universitaly platform.
The Italian language test is reserved exclusively for students who meet the above-mentioned requirements. Admitted students will be automatically registered to the test. Detailed instructions will be provided via email close to the test date.
Test dates
The test will be held on July 29th and August 28th, 2025. The minimum score required to pass the test is 55/72.
Students are also reminded that:
- in the event of a no-show on the date and time of the test, it will not be possible for them to take the test on another date (and they will consequently no longer be able to proceed with enrolment in the chosen degree programme);
- ONLY if they have been admitted to open-access degree programmes: if they fail the test, it will be possible for them to re-take it on 28th of August 2025.
- In case the ITA L2 test is taken at other Italian universities associated with CISIA, it will be valid for enrollment at the University of Padua only if it is passed with a minimum score of 55/72.
Students enrolled in the Open Semester (Semestre Aperto) of Italian-taught degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics and Veterinary Medicine (Medicina e chirurgia, Odontoiatria e Protesi dentaria or Medicina veterinaria), who do not hold a B2 level Italian language proficiency certification or who have not passed an ITA L2 Test at other Italian universities in collaboration with CISIA with a score of at least 55/72, will be invited to sit the Italian language test scheduled for August 28th, 2025.
