Because of the infamous Vaia storm, the millions of fallen trees triggered the proliferation of the European spruce bark beetle, a native insect that has become a scourge. This context is the starting point for Silvia Canton’s research and artistic experimentation, focused on reclaiming shattered wood and infested bark.

After Vaia, the European spruce bark beetle came to be, curated by Martina Cavallarin with Antonio Caruso, organized by Techne Art Service A.p.s, and held in the Sala del Camino at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice until January 3, 2026.
The exhibition is also sponsored by the University of Padua and its departments of Agronomy, Animals, Food, Natural Resources and Environment (DAFNAE), and Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry (TESAF).
