The University of Padua takes part every year in the Trofeo 1001 Vela Cup, together with other Italian and international universities, with a team made up of female and male university students.
1001VELAcup is a sailing event held annually in September in Mondello, Sicilia, featuring races with boats designed, built and sailed by female and male university students. The competition also includes the "Trofeo Paolo Padova", in which crews made up of one student and one lecturer take to the water.
The University is represented by the Metis Vela Unipd team, a group of female and male students from the University of Padua enrolled in different degree programmes who share a passion for the sea and sailing. The Metis Vela Unipd project is affiliated with the Department of Industrial Engineering and has welcomed for years female and male students from numerous schools of the University, making interdisciplinarity one of its strengths and offering them the opportunity to challenge themselves by putting into practice what they have learned in class.
From October 1 to 5, the international competition 1001VELAcup took place in Bellano on Lake Como. The Metis Vela Unipd team secured 4th place with the boat Ate and 8th place with Aletheia in the overall standings.
The University of Padua took part in the 2024 edition of 1001VELAcup, held from 25 to 29 September in Trieste with the Metis Vela team. The competition ended with the victory of Ate, the boat of the University of Padua made up of 75% green materials. The University also won the Trofeo Paolo Padova, a regatta with crews composed of professors and students from their respective Universities.
The University of Padua participated in the 2023 edition of the 1001 Vela Cup, the international regatta entirely dedicated to university sailing teams, which took place in Mondello from 27 September to 01 October. The participating universities were Karlsruhe (Germany), Napoli Federico II, Padua, Palermo, Trieste, and the Politecnico di Torino, for a total of 11 boats competing.
The event concluded with the victory of Ate, the boat of the University of Padua made up of 75% green materials.
The competition took place from 21 to 24 September 2022 in Monfalcone (GO). Five Italian universities and one foreign university took part: in addition to Padua, the Politecnico di Torino, the Politecnico di Milano, the University of Napoli, the University of Trieste and the University of Karlsruhe (Germany). The University of Padua participated by presenting two boats (Ate and Athena) and won third place in the ‘’Trofeo Paolo Padova’’ and in planning and design.

The competition took place from 22 to 26 September 2021 in Mondello (PA). Six Italian universities and one foreign university took part: besides Padua, the Polytechnic University of Turin, the Polytechnic University of Milan, the University of Naples, the University of Palermo, the University of Trieste and the University of Karlsruhe (Germany). The University of Padua participated by presenting three boats (Ate, Athena and Aura), winning third place with Athena and fifth place in the ‘Trofeo Paolo Padova’.
