Innovative student projects

The sailing team of the University of Padova is made up of a multidisciplinary group of over 70 students.
The goal is to design, build and race high-performance and sustainable boats, participating in international inter-university competitions.
They work together as a structured company, divided into six departments: design, construction, electronics, communication, logistics and crews.
At the heart of the project are the key values that guide every decision: innovation and sustainability.
For over 15 years they have participated in the 1001VelaCup, a competition that involves the construction and conduct of sailing skiffs built by the participants. The prototypes are made in the University's laboratory, using eco-sustainable materials and applying cutting-edge construction techniques.
In recent years they have achieved important results, including:

• 1st place overall at the 1001VelaCup in 2023 and 2024,
• 1st place at the Mainaldo Maneschi Trophy in 2023
• 1st place at the Paolo Padova Trophy in 2024.
• 2nd place in the engineering evaluation phase at the SuMoth Challenge 2026
