Language requirement for admission to the University's degree programmes

All applicants holding a foreign qualification, regardless of citizenship or residence, who intend to enrol on the University’s degree programmes delivered in English must be able to demonstrate an adequate knowledge of the English language, equivalent to at least B2 level and in accordance with the provisions of the teaching regulations of the individual degree programmes.

The certificates and the related minimum score thresholds are therefore considered suitable to ensure admission to degree programmes and curricula delivered entirely in English.

Each certificate requires a minimum score, which can be checked in the individual entries of the list below.

These minimum thresholds apply to all degree programmes and curricula delivered in English.

Only valid certificates are acceptable, as established by the certifying bodies or, where the certificate does not provide for an expiry date, certificates obtained within the last two years from the opening date of the selection process for international students (15/09/2026).

Certificates may be submitted at a later stage than the application submission on the apply.unipd.it portal, but within the deadlines required to complete enrolment, that is, no later than 31/07/2027. 

All candidates holding a foreign qualification who intend to enrol in the University’s degree programmes taught in Italian must demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Italian language, equivalent to at least level B2.

This level applies to all degree programmes taught in Italian, with the exception of the corso di laurea magistrale in Linguistica, which requires knowledge of the Italian language at level C1.

Only certifications obtained within the last two years from the opening date of the selection process for international students (15/09/2026) are accepted. 

Certifications may be submitted at a later stage than the application on the apply.unipd.it portal, but no later than the deadline required for the completion of enrolment, that is, by and no later than 31/07/2027. 

Students may submit an Italian language proficiency certification among those issued within the CLIQ quality system (Certificazione Lingua Italiana di Qualità), which brings together the current certifying bodies in an association (Università per stranieri di Perugia, Università per stranieri di Siena, Università Roma Tre, Società “Dante Alighieri”).

Students holding any of the following are exempt from submitting an Italian language certification issued within the CLIQ quality system:

• Italian citizenship;
• an Italian qualification, or a qualification awarded by secondary education institutions of the Republic of San Marino or the Vatican City State;
• a qualification among those indicated in Annex 2 of the Procedures for the entry, residence, enrolment of international students and the related recognition of qualifications for higher education courses in Italy;
• Chinese citizenship, belonging to the Marco Polo project, and certification of having duly passed the final examination of the Italian language course (lasting 10 or 11 months) with at least B1 level.

Candidates intending to enrol in the University’s Degree Programmes taught in Italian may also be required to demonstrate an adequate knowledge of English, in accordance with the provisions of the teaching regulations of the individual Degree Programmes.
