The inauguration of the academic year
The inauguration ceremony of the academic year represents a solemn moment for the University, during which the various components of the academic community come together in a unified sense of belonging, each bringing their own voice. This ceremony, held in the Aula Magna of Palazzo del Bo in Padua, symbolically marks the official opening of our University's activities.
The ceremony is attended by Italian and foreign rectors, the academic community, authorities, and representatives of institutions, following the centuries-old tradition of Unipd.
The inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year, marking 804 years since the founding of the University of Padua
The official opening of the 804rd academic year of the University of Padua - a.y. 2025/26 - will be proclaimed on March 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM by Rector Daniela Mapelli in the Aula Magna of Palazzo del Bo, with the presence of the President of the Veneto Regional Government, Alberto Stefani, and the Ambassador of Mexico to Italy, Genaro Lozano.
The event opens with a speech by the Rector, followed by contributions from the President of the Veneto Regional Government, the Director General of the University of Padua, Alberto Scuttari, the President of the Student Council, Paola Maria Bonomo, the scholarship student of the project Italian Universities for Palestinian Students – IUPALS, Majd Rami Hussein Swidan, and the Ambassador of Mexico to Italy.
The inaugural lecture is delivered by Alessandra Biffi, Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, who will give a talk titled: “Cell and Gene Therapies: the New Alphabet of Care We Are Learning to Write.”
The program also includes musical performances by Corollario and the Concentus Musicus Patavinus of the University of Padua, featuring the Gaudeamus choir and the chamber choir, as well as a selection from the symphony orchestra.
Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpretation will be available during the ceremony.
The ceremony, which is accessible by invitation only, will also be live-streamed on the University of Padua’s YouTube channel.
