The inauguration of the 2022/2023 academic year, marking 801 years since the founding of the University of Padua

The official inauguration of the 801st academic year of the University of Padua is proclaimed on 13 February 2023 by Rector Daniela Mapelli in the Aula Magna of Palazzo del Bo in the presence of the Minister of University and Research.

The ceremony welcomes Italian and international rectors, the academic community, and local authorities as per UniPD’s centuries-old traditions.

The ceremony opens with a speech by the Rector, followed by statements from the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini.

Scheduled speeches include those by the President of the Student Council, Emma Ruzzon, and the Director General of the University of Padua, Alberto Scuttari.

The University of Padua professor, philosopher of science and evolutionist Telmo Pievani offers the inaugural address with a lecture on Noi, la natura, la scienza: elogio della fragilità. The ceremony also welcomes the artist Emilio Isgrò.

With a musical performance by the University of Padua’s Concentus Musicus Patavinus and a public unveiling of Emilio Isgrò work entitled L’abiura di Galileo.

The ceremony is accessible to the hearing impaired thanks to the addition of an Italian Sign Language interpreter.
