Foundations, associations, charities and other international public and private bodies
In Europe and worldwide, numerous organisations decide to internationally fund basic, clinical and applied research at various levels and in different forms, according to their budget availability and in line with their ‘mission’.
Funding is given to researchers at any stage of their scientific career, employed or not at a research organisation, with innovative individual projects or collaborative projects with other national or international research groups.
Some funding bodies support research only to implement scientific development in their own country, thus requiring the researcher's mobility for the entire duration of the research contract (post-doc); others allow the applicants to choose their host institution, which can also be the one in which the researcher is employed (University of Padua).
All scientific fields are funded. Most funding bodies are set up to solve specific health and pharmacological issues, but there are also organisations that are open to proposals in any field, as long as they are innovative and have a major impact, be it social, economic, technological or political.
