Student-athlete dual career

For the tenth edition of the Dual Career Project, the dual student-athlete status was granted to 132 student-athletes.

They stood out in their category and specialty with outstanding results: 55 student-athletes achieved the following:

• 1 world champion – gold medal and a new record in cycling;
• 1 athlete selected for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, para-cycling;
• 2 selections for international competitions, para-badminton and volleyball (Deaflympics);
• 1 world and European champion in paratriathlon;
• 1 world champion – silver medal at the U21 Volleyball World Championships;
• 1 world champion – bronze medal in fencing, foil discipline;
• 9 podium finishes at European championships – 3 silver medals in water polo, 2 in compound archery, 2 in athletics, race walking and high jump, first and third place in handball;
• 12 Italian absolute champions in rowing, canoe sprint, handball, speed skating, rugby, show jumping, triple jump, 4x400 m relay-athletics, archery;
• 3 podium finishes at national championships – silver medals in the pole vault, long jump, and 4x100 relay athletics events;
• 2 national champions – bronze medal in triple jump-athletics and Taekwondo;
• 1 national champion and athlete selected for the national team (Croatia) in sabre fencing;
• 5 victories in Italian championships with promotion to a higher division in handball, volleyball, and rugby;
• 15 athletes selected for the national team for national and international competitions (athletics-pole vault, canoeing, swimming, handball, water polo, volleyball, rugby);
• 1 athlete selected for their country’s national team (Croatia).

Another 77 student-athletes are registered with clubs with which the University has signed a framework agreement and compete in the 2025/26 sports season in the national championships of baseball, ice hockey, basketball, handball, volleyball, and rugby.

For the ninth edition of the Progetto Doppia carriera, the dual student-athlete status was recognized for 111 athletes.
46 athletes stood out in their category and specialty with outstanding results:

• 1 world champion, Paralympic athlete, with a silver medal in triathlon
• 2 European champions in women's water polo ("Len Champions league Women")
• 7 called up to World Championships (track and field, cycling, canoe-kayak)
• 2 called up to European Championships (football, target shooting)
• 1 called up for the Olympic Games in Parigi 2024 (sabre)
• 4 called up for the 6 Nazioni rugby tournament (women's U20 and men's U18)
• 16 called up to national and other competitions (boxing, archery, fencing...)
• 8 Italian champions in track and field,
• 1 overall Italian champion in volleyball;
• 1 overall Italian champion in archery;
• 2 Italian champions in sabre;
• 1 Italian champion in handball

Another 65 athletes are registered with clubs with which the Ateneo has signed a framework agreement and compete in the 2024/25 sports season in the national championships of basketball, handball, volleyball, and rugby.

For the eighth edition of the Dual Career Project launched by the University of Padua, the dual qualification of student-athlete was awarded to 60 athletes who have excelled in their category and discipline with outstanding results.

The following milestones were achieved (in the years 2022 and/or 2023):

• 3 Italian Champions - National, European, and World podium finishes
• 2 European podium finishes, with selection to the national team
• 1 National and European podium finish, with selection to the national team
• 3 athletes who are Italian Champions, with selection to the national team
• 14 athletes who are Italian Champions
• 16 athletes selected to the national team
• 21 athletes registered with teams under the Unipd framework agreement

For the current edition, the dual career status has also been awarded to 56 athletes competing with the Cus Padova teams in the men's and women's basketball and volleyball championships.

The University of Padua recognizes student-athlete status for students who are duly enrolled (for a maximum of two years beyond the duration of the Degree Programme) and who meet both of the following requirements:

• achievement of sporting merits of particular competitive significance;
• completion of at least 20 CFU from the previous year (as of September 30, 2022) for those enrolled in years after the first; completion of at least 6 CFU by the February exam session for students enrolled in the first year.

For the seventh edition of the dual career Project launched by the University of Padua, dual student-athlete status was recognized for 61 athletes who distinguished themselves in their category and discipline with outstanding results.
The following milestones were achieved (in the years 2021 and/or 2022):

1 athlete world, European and Italian champion
1 athlete world champion, with the national team
2 athletes reached the world podium, after being called up to the national team
1 athlete reached the European podium
25 athletes called up to the national team
9 athletes Italian champions, after being called up to the national team
10 athletes Italian champions
1 coach of an Italian champion athlete, called up to the national team
11 athletes registered with teams covered by the Unipd framework agreement

For the current edition, dual career status was also recognized for 47 athletes who compete with the Cus Padova teams in the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball championships.

REQUIRED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND BENEFITS: 

Eligibility is granted if the athlete is called up to the Italian national team or that of their own country, or if they reach the podium in national, European, or world championships. Coaches and referees called up to represent Italy (or their own country) at the Olympics/Paralympics are also eligible, as is anyone competing in national championships for sports clubs (in the province of Padua or in cities where the University of Padua has a branch campus) with which Unipd has a framework agreement, namely: Pallavolo Padova, Asd S. Martino Lupe basket (PD), Asd Rugger Tarvisum (TV), Rugby Rovigo Delta, Petrarca Rugby (PD), Valsugana Rugby (PD), Rugby Casale (TV), Benetton Rugby Treviso, Usd Casalserugo Pallavolo (PD), Asd Padova Baseball softball club (PD), Officina del Volley, Usma Padova ASD, Asd Hockey Club Feltre (BL), Patavium Rugby (PD) and Eagles Asd (Padova).

The University may grant eligible students an annual contribution, assignment of a tutor, the possibility of agreeing with the lecturer on a different exam date within the same session, authorization not to count absence from compulsory attendance of a lesson or laboratory, or to agree on how to make it up if the absences last several days, psychological and motivational support, the possibility of requesting suspension of studies in preparation for and participation in international sporting events, and certification of sporting merits recognized as a student-athlete in the Diploma Supplement.

The University of Padua recognizes the student-athlete status for students who are duly enrolled (for a maximum of 2 years beyond the duration of the Degree Programme) and who meet both of the following requirements:

For the sixth edition of the Dual Career Project launched by the University of Padua, dual student-athlete status was recognized for 50 athletes who stood out in their category and discipline with outstanding results. The following milestones were achieved (in the years 2020 and/or 2021):

• 1 European champion
• 16 Italian champions
• 24 athletes called up to the national team
• 1 coach of an athlete called up to the national team
• 8 athletes registered with teams under the Unipd framework agreement

For the current edition, dual career status has also been recognized for 40 athletes who competed with the Cus Padova teams in the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball championships.

Of the total 90 students and athletes who were granted dual student-athlete status, in compliance with the regular enrollment and academic merit requirements to be maintained in the 2021/22 academic year, 86 eligibility confirmations were made: 70 students received the merit scholarship provided by the Project and tutoring support, while 16 students were assigned a reference tutor.

For the fifth edition of the Dual Career Project launched by the University of Padua, dual student-athlete status was awarded to 77 athletes. 38 are the students who competed in the 2020/21 sports season with the Cus Padova teams in the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball championships; 39 are the athletes who distinguished themselves in their own category and discipline with outstanding results. Below is a description of the achievements attained (in the years 2019 and/or 2020) by the individual athletes:

• 4 Italian champions;
• 3 on the podium in world/international competitions;
• 1 athlete on the overall podium in the national championship;
• 22 students called up to the national team;
• 7 athletes compete with Kioene Padova, a club covered by a framework agreement with the University;
• 2 athletes compete with LUPE San Martino basket, a club covered by a framework agreement with the University.

For the fourth edition of the Dual Career Project launched by the University of Padua, the dual student-athlete status was awarded to 33 athletes who stood out in their category and discipline with outstanding results. The following achievements were attained (in the years 2018 and/or 2019):

• 15 athletes called up to the national team;
• 7 athletes were awarded as Italian champions;
• 2 athletes reached the podium in world competitions;
• 7 athletes won an overall podium place in national championships;
• 2 athletes compete with Kione Padova, a club included in a framework agreement with the University.
