The results of the 2025 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) were released today, Monday, August 15. The ranking is compiled by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, one of the most accredited international agencies for evaluating universities and research institutions. Over 2,500 universities were assessed by the Asian agency, but only the top 1,000 made it into the final ranking.

The results of the 2025 edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) were released today, Monday, August 15. The ranking is compiled by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, one of the most accredited international agencies for evaluating universities and research institutions. Over 2,500 universities were assessed by the Asian agency, but only the top 1,000 made it into the final ranking.
This year, the University of Padua has improved its performance, placing in the 151–200 range worldwide (up from the 201–300 range last year). Nationally, it now ranks between 2nd and 3rd place, compared to its previous position in the 4th–8th range in 2024.
The ARWU ranking is based on six indicators:
Alumni and Award indicators, which consider Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals won by former students and university-affiliated researchers;
- Hi-Ci, which measures the number of highly cited researchers affiliated with the institution;
- N&S, which accounts for publications in Nature and Science;
- PUB, which evaluates the number of articles published in the most cited journals in the scientific and social sciences fields;
- PCP, a per capita performance indicator that relates the previous five measures to the size of the academic staff.
The University of Padua's improved performance is mainly due to three indicators: scientific productivity (PUB and PCP) and the number of highly cited researchers (Hi-Ci).
With this result, the University of Padua strengthens its leadership in scientific quality and output at the national level and remains highly competitive on the global stage.
