  • esposizione del progetto, con possibilità di messa a disposizione di area nuda (gratuita) o di uno stand preallestito da 8 mq (a pagamento);
  • workshop nella nuova area “Make Lab – Creiamo Insieme” (con possibilità di rimborso, come da regolamento);
  • esibizioni, in uno spazio pubblico e/o virtuale – con performance creative, tecnologiche, robotiche o musicali;
  • talk.

  • esposizione del progetto, con possibilità di messa a disposizione di area nuda (gratuita) o di uno stand preallestito da 8 mq (a pagamento);
  • workshop nella nuova area “Make Lab – Creiamo Insieme” (con possibilità di rimborso, come da regolamento);
  • esibizioni, in uno spazio pubblico e/o virtuale – con performance creative, tecnologiche, robotiche o musicali;
  • talk.

A new study conducted by an international team coordinated by the University of Padua has revealed alarming data regarding the health of male bodybuilders, particularly professionals. The research, published in the European Heart Journal, analysed over 20,000 athletes who competed in IFBB events between 2005 and 2020, with an average follow-up period of more than eight years.

Marco Vecchiato, the study's lead author, highlights a growing number of premature deaths in recent years among bodybuilders and fitness influencers, pointing to a gap in the understanding of the long-term risks associated with competitive bodybuilding.
Andrea Ermolao adds that 121 deaths were identified, 38% of which were due to sudden cardiac death—often linked to structural changes in the heart and the use of performance-enhancing drugs. The risk of sudden cardiac death in professional bodybuilders was found to be more than five times higher than in amateur athletes.

The research, a result of international collaboration between Italian, American, and Austrian scientists, systematically reviewed deaths of international bodybuilders up to July 2023, using web sources in five different languages. Among the few available autopsy reports, findings included heart thickening or enlargement and, in some cases, coronary artery disease, with several athletes having a history of doping substance abuse.

Competitive bodybuilding imposes significant physical and psychological stress through intensive training, extreme diets, dehydration techniques, and doping, all contributing to the higher incidence of fatal events. These factors can severely strain the cardiovascular system, increasing the risk of dangerous arrhythmias and structural heart changes over time.

The study underscores the need for safer training practices, regular medical check-ups, and a cultural shift that rejects doping. The findings call for the implementation of proactive cardiovascular screening and closer cooperation between the medical community, sports federations, and institutions to ensure safer participation in bodybuilding.

While this study focused on male bodybuilders due to greater data availability, the research team is already working on a parallel analysis dedicated to female athletes and a broader investigation into how practices and risks associated with the discipline have evolved over time.

On Friday, 23rd May, at the Cantele Hall of the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company of the University of Padua in Legnaro, the workshop "Enhancement of the Territory through Agri-food Research" was held, during which the Caseus Patavinus 1222 was presented. This is a mature cow's milk cheese produced with raw milk, resulting from a collaboration between the University of Padua and the Morandi Dairy in Anguillara Veneta.

Caseus Patavinus 1222 is a raw cow's milk cheese, with a cubic shape and a weight of approximately 6 kg. It has an edible rind, treated with extra virgin olive oil, and a straw-yellow colour. The cheese has a semi-hard and crumbly texture, which becomes more compact with ageing. The interior colour ranges from pearly white to ochre, with possible green veins due to potential natural blueing. The maturation period lasts between 8-10 months.

This cheese, with great symbolic, cultural, and gastronomic value, was born from a collaboration in 2023 between the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company and the Morandi Dairy. It is produced in limited quantities and the milk comes from Italian Red Pied cows, fed with forage produced on the farm and allowed to graze freely, ensuring excellent health conditions and animal welfare.

The milk used to produce Caseus Patavinus 1222 comes exclusively from the Teaching Barn of the "Lucio Toniolo" Experimental Agricultural Company of the University of Padua. The Teaching Barn is essential for the practical activities of over 1700 students in the Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine courses, contributing to the prestigious European accreditation of the Veterinary Medicine degree course. The barn, which resumed its productive activity in 2012/13, houses about 40 dairy cows and 30 young heifers. The goal is to ensure animal welfare by improving their diet with self-produced forage. Recently, a grazing area has been introduced for the cows, further improving the quality of the milk.

This educational and management approach aims to offer students advanced practical experiences. In addition to direct sales at the Morandi Dairy, Caseus Patavinus 1222 will be distributed in quality restaurants, wine shops, and selected stores in Padua.

The prestigious Abel Prize – often referred to as the Nobel Prize of Mathematics – was awarded in Oslo to Masaki Kashiwara, a professor at Kyoto University, known as the mathematician who "abstracted abstractions."

Following the award presentation by the King of Norway, three distinguished mathematicians were invited to explain Kashiwara’s exceptional contributions to mathematics in a way accessible to the general public.

Among them was Italian mathematician Andrea D'Agnolo, a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Padua, who had jointly won the Frontiers of Science Award with Masaki Kashiwara last year.

Andrea D'Agnolo engaged the audience by explaining one of Kashiwara’s major achievements: the Riemann-Hilbert Correspondence, an analytical bridge between algebra and topology.
