Application for benefits and ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator)

In order to take advantage of the various financial benefits, such as fee-waivers, regional scholarships, student collaborations, others exemptions and incentives, you need to follow these steps:

  1a. Asking for the issue of the ISEE certificate (for students residing in Italy)

ISEE is the indicator that summarises the economic-patrimonial situation taking into account income, assets and the size of one's household. The ISEE certificate can be requested electronically through the INPS website or personally at a Tax Assistance Centre (CAF) or other competent Body, specifying that it is required for the benefits related to the right to university education.

The applicant's family unit is integrated with that of the parents when both of the following conditions do not apply:

  • residence outside the housing unit of the family of origin, for at least two years from the date of submission of the Single Declaration in Lieu (Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica, DSU) in housing not owned by one of its members;
  • tax-declared employment income or assimilated income, for at least two years, not less than €9,000.

The ISEE certificate is not taken into account:

  • if it contains omissions/irregularities reported by INPS and not remedied;
  • if it is not requested for the benefits related to the right to university education.

  1b. Asking for the issue of an ISEE PARIFICATO (only for international students)

International students must apply for an ISEE Parificato if:

  • they are resident abroad (whether or not registered with AIRE)
  • they are resident in Italy, with an annual earned income of less than € 9,000 and with their household resident abroad.

"ISEE Parificato" is an official certificate which indicates your financial standing in any given year on the basis of family status, earnings and property. You will need to provide information and documentation regarding you and your family’s annual income and assets.

Please be aware that you might need several months to collect the documents required to obtain the ISEE Parificato, have them translated and legalised, etc. We therefore strongly recommend to start the process as soon as possible.

The ISEE Parificato calculation service is free of charge and must be requested from the CAF that has an agreement with the University and ESU:
