Scholarships for Chinese PhD students

The University of Padova and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have created a scholarship programme to enable talented Chinese students to undertake a PhD programme at Padova.
The agreement between CSC and the University of Padova was signed in Beijing, at the CSC headquarters, on October 20th 2014.

The scholarships build on Padova University’s existing relationship with China. It has, in fact, extensive research links with Chinese research institutions and Universities. This scheme provides Chinese students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a PhD at the University of Padova. They are supported jointly by the China Scholarship (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Padova.

Admissions for CSC candidates

The application is open for CSC (China Scholarship Council) candidates for the next PhD programme starting in October 2023. The offer of admission will be conditional to the awarding of the CSC grant.

Candidates interested in applying to the University of Padova outside the CSC grant agreement will follow a regular admission procedure.

The candidates with Chinese citizenship interested in CSC scholarships, and planning to apply to the University of Padova, will submit their application to get an offer of admission to the University of Padova PhD program, following the procedure below.

The application deadline is January 12, 2023.

NEW Application deadline is January 23, 2023 at 13 (CEST)
With Rectoral Decree n. 31/2023 the new deadline for applications, which must be exclusively completed and submitted online, is January 23rd, 2023 at 1.00 p.m. (CET).
Reference letters can be filled in and sent online by the professor/expert by January 27th 2023 at 1.00 p.m. (CET).

  Who can participate

- Citizens of the People’s Republic of China

- Students who will complete a Master degree by September 30, 2023

- Candidates must have an excellent knowledge of English.

The selection is based on evaluation of qualifications and oral examination. The oral examination is aimed at verifying candidate’s motivation and ascertaining their excellent knowledge of the English language.

The scholarship will cover:
A grant for average living costs, one return flight from China to Italy, a contribution to attend conferences.
The University of Padova exempts candidates from the payment of tuition fees, while the amounts due for stamp duty, regional contribution to the right to education must be paid.
Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.
