Physics - a.y. 2019/20

The Master's degree in Physics offered by the University of Padova is intended for students with a keen interest in either the theoretical or the experimental aspects of frontline physics. It is possible to specialize in various active fields of  the physics of the fundamental interactions and of the physics of matter.

  Overview

Level: Master

Field of study: LM-17 Physics

Degree awarded: Master's degree in Physics

Start date: September 2019

Location: Padova

Available places: European candidates or non-European candidates residing in Italy: unlimited; Non-European candidates residing outside Italy: 10 (2 for candidates joining the Marco Polo Project)

  Course description

The program deepens the knowledge of basic elements of modern physics (atomic and molecular physics, solid state physics, nuclear and particle physics) and of theoretical physics (analytical mechanics, quantum mechanics, mathematical and numerical methods). It is possible to strengthen the knowledge of specific fields like biophysics, nanoscience, quantum information, condensed matter physics, nuclear and particle physics, physics of the fundamental interactions. Finally, the program provides direct experience of the laboratory techniques and computer calculation techniques and data analysis.

The graduate in Physics will know and understand the most relevant phenomena of the physical world at different scales, starting from the macroscopic world down to the atomic physics, the physics of condensed matter, nuclear and subnuclear physics. The understanding of the physical world will be based on experimental evidence and a proper use of the theoretical modelling and its mathematical instruments, including numerical techniques.

  Course structure

The Master's degree in Physics is divided in two curricula to be chosen by the student: Physics of the fundamental interactions and Physics of matter. For further information please check: http://en.didattica.unipd.it

  Career opportunities

The graduate in Physics can find jobs opportunities in Italy and abroad in industries involving new technologies regardless of the final products, in service companies aiming to innovation and, more generally, in all activities requiring understanding and modelling of processes and ability in analysis and testing. These include startups and high tech industries, software and consulting companies, research centers and public administration. They can also teach physics and mathematics in schools of different levels.

  Entry requirements

Selection of candidates is based on academic record (congruence of bachelor studies and merit). The evaluation of the CV of the candidates may be integrated by a Skype interview.

  Language requirements

B2 level reading and listening

  Application

Candidates with a foreign degree

The first Call for applications 2019/20 expired on 28th February 2019.

The second Call for applications has the following timeline:
