About myself

Hi, I'm An, a tech enthusiast. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's Degree in Applied Economics at the University of Padua, Italy with a full-ride scholarship.
Prior to this, I worked at ZaloPay, a Vietnamese leading fintech company, building fraud prevention solutions and assessing credit risk using both rule-based and Machine learning mechanisms, for 2 years. Before that, I worked for AIESEC, the largest youth organization in the world, and gained communication skills in an international environment.
I love learning, traveling and writing in my free time.

Why did you choose the University of Padua and the Applied Economics degree programme?

The University of Padua is among the best universities in Italy and in Europe
Padua is a university city with an international environment that celebrates diversity
The Applied Economics degree programme offers many interesting courses that will be much needed in my future career path

What are the main features of your degree programme?

The Applied Economics degree program is built for anyone who wants to pursue a career in analytics, no matter the field.
The first semester reinforced our theoretical foundation on math, econometrics etc to make sure that everyone was on the same page. Then, we were exposed to more practical courses taught by professors with industry experience, who shared many interesting insights.
It’s worth noting that the Economic Data Analytics track puts a strong focus on understanding economical theories and tools that might be intimidating for you if you don’t have sufficient background in this field. In that case, I highly recommend taking the pre-course beforehand and asking for advice because help is always around the corner!

Is there any class/subject that has stood out to you so far?

I’m particularly keen on the Machine learning class this semester. The way it is organized (1 theoretical session – 1 lab session) really helps boost our learning efficiency. Moreover, the content is well updated and very relevant to real use cases at work. Professors are super supportive and knowledgeable as well.

What advice would you give to students wishing to study here?

If you are planning to further your education in Italy, I highly recommend the University of Padua.
The application process might be stressful but the admission team is very helpful so do not hesitate to ask for their assistance.
You can also ask for help from alumni or current students from your countries who might have experienced the same problems and might know the solution. All in all, Padua is a choice you will never regret making!

What do you like most about the City of Padua and why?

Padua is ancient with deep root of education so it never lacks attractions to visit and libraries, study rooms etc. for students.
At the same time, Padua is a vibrant city full of young people that offers all the convenience (like 30 minutes to Venice!) without the chaos of big cities like Milan.
For this duality and balanced vibes, I really love City of Padua!

Have you found it easy to meet new people since you started university?

It will be a challenge not to meet students everywhere you go in Padua. The university and the department offer a wide range of networking activities for you to connect with your classmates and make friends outside of your bubble, so you can seize the opportunity and join anything that interests you!
